“I am willing to do whatever is necessary to become a nonsmoker, but I have realized that quitting smoking is something I need help with in order to succeed.”
Gavin – Musician, writer, and smoker for over 20 years. Quitting for health, upcoming race, and future family."
“Although I’ve been an asthmatic since I was five, I have now been smoking for going on 20 years. I have recently endured a number of issues related to my health, and, to push myself toward recovery, I have registered for an extremely rigorous physical and mental challenge in Salt Lake City on June 1st. In order to be physically able to complete this challenge, I need to be in the best physical condition I can possibly be in, and quitting smoking is a very high priority for me. Additionally, I am getting married in the summer, and my fiancée and I are planning on having children. I refuse to raise children while I am still a smoker, so I have more than enough motivation to quit, but the problem is this: I enjoy smoking. I have unsuccessfully attempted to quit a number of times, so my next attempt has absolutely got to be successful, and I am willing to do whatever is necessary to become a nonsmoker, but I have realized that, although I consider myself extremely “mentally tough”, quitting smoking is something I need help with in order to succeed.”
